September Exhibitions

Check out new visual art exhibitions around the city this September! Each month, we spotlight a new or outgoing visual arts exhibition in the city, followed by a roundup of others you can see this month.

Starting August 30, 2024, The New Gallery plays host to the exhibition Memory Lane by Tangent Collective, a group of nomadic artists and curators “maneuvering” in Toronto and China.

In the exhibition, the works of Yuxiang Dong, Lan “Florence” Yee, Beichen Zhang, Shellie Zhang and Andong Zheng pay homage to memory in all its forms, with its inability to be reproduced from a personal level, to the agreed upon qualities from a collective perspective. Each artists tackles the theme in their own way, touching on subjects ranging from loss and nostalgia, to the impact of colonialism on culture, to racial narratives in history.

You can check out Memory Lane until October 19, 2024 at The New Gallery located at 208 Centre St. S, in Calgary’s Chinatown.
