November Exhibitions

Check out new visual art exhibitions around the city this November! Each month, we spotlight a new or outgoing visual arts exhibitions in the city, followed by a roundup of others you can see this month.

Opening November 7, 2024 at Contemporary Calgary, In a Strange Place is a 9-channel video installation by artist duo Mia + Eric that reflects on the labour of forest caretakers and stewards — revealing the politics of care that affects the work that they do, and the relationship that they nurture with the land.

Born out of a multi-year, international research and engagement process with communities in England, Germany and Norway, this iteration of the project is akin to a homecoming, featuring 30 caretakers from British Columbia and Alberta, including woodlands close to Calgary.

You can check out In a Strange Place until February 9, 2015 at Contemporary Calgary located at 701 11 St. SW, across from the Downtown West–Kery LRT Station. To learn more about the artist duo’s approach to art, listen to our conversation with Eric Moschopedis in our recent Storytelling Podcast.
