April Exhibitions
Check out new visual art exhibitions around Calgary this April — from a series of sculptural vases, to a collection of black-and-white photographs and more! Each month, we spotlight a new or outgoing visual art exhibition in the city, followed by a roundup of others you can enjoy.
Don’t miss catching We’ve Met Before at The Bows before it closes later this month. Artist Khadijah Morley ruminates on spiritual practices and her connection to transcendence through a series of linocut and woodcut prints. The works use a dreamlike palette, inviting viewers to dream, to wonder and to reimagine the boundaries of what is known.
“Khadijah has a careful cadence in the production of her work; each decision made is rooted in oral histories, or obsessive investigation into Afro-Caribbean folklore, Black feminist futures, and surrealist imagery,” says artist and curator Eva Birhanu. “This new series of work, We’ve Met Before, which Khadijah has been investigating for the better part of a year, illustrates astounding technical skill and labour, quietly showing viewers her mastery in the craft of printing.”
You can check out this exhibition until April 26, 2025 at The Bows, located at 2001b 10 Ave. SW in the inner-city community of Sunalta, just steps from the Sunalta LRT Station.
