Now in its 21st season, Calgary’s Early Music Voices concert series presents local and touring artists performing music from the medieval, renaissance, and baroque periods. Enter to win tickets to this season opener.

Published in 1604, John Dowland’s Lachrimae is an iconic work that defies the 21st century concept of sound bites. Slow, rich in harmony with time for contemplation, the sonnet that the original song was set to, speaks of the pain of love lost.

The beautiful program features Montréal’s renowned Les Voix Humaines and alternates Lachrimae Pavans with exquisite lute solos under the masterful hands of Nigel North. The ensemble also performs a piece by Montréal-based composer Stacey Brown—a 21st-century take on Lachrimae which was commissioned by Early Music Vancouver.

Catch Dowland Lachrimae at 7:30pm on October 25, 2019 at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 8th St. SW). A pre-concert talk starts at 7:00pm.

Enter before noon on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 for your chance to win a pair of tickets.
