Luminous Voices presents the original scoring of this beloved work

Calgary’s Luminous Voices opens its 2016/17 season with Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle—a varied and expressive work from the Italian opera master that is neither little nor solemn.

Considered a masterpiece of choral music, the work is full of surprising harmonies and was written for 12 singers, pianos and harmonium (a type of pump organ). Because of its success, the demand for a full concert version arose and was orchestrated it in 1866. But Rossini admitted he preferred the intimacy and clarity of his original scoring. Because of this, hear the original version with soloists Laura Hynes (soprano), Patricia Thompson (mezzo-soprano), Lawrence Wiliford (tenor), Jihwan Cho (bass-baritone), Cheryl Emery (piano), and Leanne Regehr (piano).

Petite Messe Solennelle takes place at 3:00pm on October 16, 2016 at the Bella Concert Hall, Mount Royal University (4825 Mount Royal Gate SW).

Enter before noon on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 for your chance to win two tickets!
