Starting the new year with a new direction, join Calgary Cinematheque as it launches its spotlight series with Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Highlighting the work of American cinematographers Gordon Willis and Haskell Wexler and their politically charged films of the 1960s and 1970s, the series includes screenings of In the Heat of the Night and All the President’s Men.
Bringing a sensibility attuned to subtle lighting in shades of grey, Wexler often worked with soft bounced light. A 1966 American black comedy-drama film directed by Mike Nichols, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is one of only two films to be nominated in every eligible category at the Academy Awards.
