Waitress
Broadway smash features two young Calgarians in the role of Lulu for local run
- Location: Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (1415 14th Ave. NW)
Inspired by Adrienne Shelly’s beloved film, Waitress tells the story of Jenna, a server and expert pie maker as she dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. Don’t miss this touring Broadway smash as it makes its Calgary stop with Broadway Across Canada.
And, this hit musical features two local actresses in the role of Lulu! Violet Henderson, 6, and Rowan Oler, 4, alternate as the daughter—and salvation—of the production’s main character.
“Broadway Across Canada is thrilled that Waitress is engaging young talent from our communities to take the stage in the young Lulu role,” reads a statement from the production. “This local casting initiative really speaks to the show’s empowering message to follow your dreams and we will get to see that dream realization for Violet and Rowan. We are absolutely elated that these girls will make their Broadway debut right here on the stage of the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, our home in Calgary.”
Change is on the menu, that is as long as Jenna can write her own perfectly personal recipe for happiness.
Pouring her heart into her pies, Jenna crafts desserts that mirror her topsy-turvy life such as The Key (Lime) to Happiness Pie and Betrayed By My Eggs Pie. When a baking contest in a nearby county—and a satisfying encounter with someone new—shows Jenna a chance at a fresh start, she must find the courage to seize it.
Waitress runs November 19 to 24, 2019 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (1415 14th Ave. NW).
