A dance theatre extravaganza bringing together nine popular dance genres with roots on the diverse continent of Africa, Unganisha celebrates the history and influence of African culture on modern dance.
An all-Calgary team of dancers, actors, and choreographers use movement and storytelling to journey through Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Cuban, capoeira, hip hop, jazz, samba, salsa, step, and tap while celebrating their genesis, their contemporary popularity, and their ability to connect across cultures and continents.
Produced by Woezo Africa Music & Dance Theatre and presented in association with Arts Commons, a portion of ticket sales go to support the Ribbon Rouge Foundation. And be sure to stop by the free cultural fair complementing the performance from 3:30 to 6:30pm in the Martha Cohen Theatre Lobby.
