The Outsider
Stage West gets political with Paul Slade Smith’s poignant piece
- Location: Stage West Calgary (727 42nd Ave. SE)
In politics, the less you know, the higher you’ll go! Both a razor-sharp comedy and a sincere tribute to democracy, The Outsider is a timely and hilarious take on modern politics.
Join Stage West Calgary for this entirely possible and incredibly poignant production.
In the midst of a political scandal, Ned Newley, the ultimate policy wonk, is unexpectedly thrust into the position of Governor. There’s one problem—Newley doesn’t even want to be Governor. He has no political instincts, a paralyzing fear of public speaking, and his poll numbers are impressively bad.
Even he admits that he might be the worst candidate to ever run for office. But what if that’s exactly what the voters want? The Outsider is a political comedy by Paul Slade Smith, the writer of the hit production Unnecessary Farce.
Looking—and laughing—at the art of spin, this funny and lighthearted show is full of nods to the current state of politics and the media. The plot never takes itself too seriously and offers up a fun evening out. In fact, it makes talking politics at the dinner table totally acceptable.
The Outsider runs February 14 to April 19, 2020 at Stage West Calgary (727 42nd Ave. SE).
Stage West will be suspending operations from March 16 until April 7, 2020 in response to COVID-19.
