- Location: Max Bell Theatre, Arts Commons (240 9th Ave. SE)
A dazzling musical from Theatre Calgary, The Louder We Get follows the compelling and inspirational true story of Marc Hall as he navigates the Catholic school system to fight for his right to take his boyfriend to prom.
Now, 17 years later, the meaning and message is sure to motivate and inspire people to embrace equality and stand up for who they are. With colourful pop-inspired songs and heart-warming unity, you won’t want to miss this electric love story.
Based on the book by Alberta-born playwright Kent Staines with lyrics and music by former Calgarians Akiva Romer-Segal and Colleen Dauncey, this show is directed by Lonny Price and co-directed by Matt Cowart.
“I am so delighted to be coming to Calgary to work with my old friend Stafford Arima on this exciting new Canadian musical,” says Price in a statement. “Kent, Akiva, and Colleen have written an invigorating show about empowerment—about young people standing up and fighting for what they believe in. There’s a lot we can learn from the young people of today, and we need to.”
Evan Kinnane stars in the role of Marc Hall alongside an incredible cast of local Calgary and Canadian talent.
“Theatre Calgary, under the artistic direction of Stafford Arima, is taking big bold steps creating an incubator and a launching pad for new musicals,” says producer Mary Young Leckie in a statement. “The Louder We Get is a perfect fit! A big, bold musical full of heart and soul, unforgettable songs, and a story that has been inspiring kids around the world since Marc’s story broke in 2002.
“The Louder we Get is going to rock Calgary audiences on its journey to the world.”
The show runs January 28 to February 22, 2020 at the Max Bell Theatre, Arts Commons (240 9th Ave. SE).
