Join saxophonist Jack Wilkins for The Banff Project, a live concert featuring a series of original compositions and accompanying visual imagery.

The director of Jazz Studies at the University of South Florida, Wilkins is in Calgary as the Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Interdisciplinary/Multidisciplinary Performance. Professionally trained as a jazz musician, he has been focused on interdisciplinary research and practice for a number of years and completed a composition residency with the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in 2013.

“This was an exciting artistic opportunity, because each composition required visual imagery, sometimes in advance of writing the music, and in some cases, created during or after the music was completed,” says Wilkins, in a statement. “This was a unique type of music/film collaboration, as the standard methodology for film music [music written to existing film or even film created for existing music] was not possible.”

Catch The Banff Project at 8:00pm at November 15, 2017 at the University Theatre, University of Calgary (230 University Court NW).
