Spurt of Blood

Theatre Encounter invites you to be part of its theatre of cruelty experiment

A multi-disciplinary spectacle full of highly subversive content based on Antonin Artaud’s text, Theatre Encounter’s theatre of cruelty experiment is bound to be unsettling.

Developed by its experimental research branch, Spurt of Blood is a collaborative and radical interpretation of Artaud’s landmark theatrical text. Audiences of just 14 individuals per show are asked to subject themselves to the visceral experience of the theatre of cruelty.

The theatre theorist’s only published play is generally considered unstageable, but that’s not stopping this show. A vicious and subversive creation myth, the production is steeped in sex, violence, and images of metaphysical horror and uses music, dance, physical theatre, and projection to create a one-of-a-kind piece of multimedia performance art.

Spurt of Blood runs March 22 to 25, 2017 at Theatre Junction GRAND (608 1st St. SW). Audiences are advised to purchase tickets in advance as only 14 tickets will be sold to each performance.
