Spring Festival Guide 2017

The melt is on and Calgary’s festivals are heating up

Many consider summer to be Calgary’s festival season, but the spring brings a number of great, annual treats worth checking out. From inclusive visual arts and independent theatre to film and street festivals, there’s something for everyone this season.

This is My City Festival

For the fifth consecutive year, This is My City Art Society presents this interdisciplinary festival of art from the margins. It all kicks off with several great visual art exhibits and continues with a lineup of film screenings, music, and workshops. Reactor Improv Festival

Calgary Performing Arts Festival

An integral part of the Calgary arts community, this annual festival encourages classical and contemporary music and speech arts performance among amateur students of all ages and skill levels. Calgary Underground Film Festival

420 Music & Arts Festival

Yes, you read that right, Calgary has its own 420 festival dedicated to stoner rock and the culture that has developed around the genre. Headlining the inaugural event is Wo Fat, marking the Texas-based band’s first Canadian appearance.

Calgary Spoken Word Festival

Love the art of the word? Then you need to check out this festival. Hosted by the Calgary Spoken Word Society, this year’s lineup features four days of performances and workshops in celebration of poetry and music.

Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo

Get ready to get your nerd on! The Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo returns for 2017 with four days of celebrity guests, creators, cosplay stars, exhibitors, and so much more. The second largest pop culture show in Canada, over 100,000 people attended in 2016 and this year’s guest lineup includes stars like Jeremy Renner, John Cusack, James Marsters, Mara Wilson, and Steven Yeun.

Cannonball! A Festival of Youth Theatre
