One of Canada’s largest and longest running visual arts festivals for artists with disabilities, SPARK Disability Art Festival celebrates creative self-expression by artists pan-disability.

Including emerging and professional artists with developmental, physical, or sensory disabilities, mental health barriers, brain injury, and/or chronic illness, artists are encouraged to explore authentic interpretations of the disability experience.

Presented by Prospect/Studio C, this year’s festival takes place at Studio C and on three floors in cSPACE King Edward alongside additional events the University of Calgary and the Alberta College of Art + Design.

And be sure to check out the festival reception on December 6 at 6:00pm.

Featuring representatives from the Indefinite Arts Centre, Artistic Expressions, MoMo Movement, Inside Out Theatre, and other special guests, the evening includes a discussion on the benefits and challenges of festivals that exclusively feature disabled artists. Following the panel, the hallway galleries of cSPACE are open for the public to explore until 8:00pm. It’s a great chance to see 85 pieces of juried art in all media from international artists.

The SPARK Disability Art Festival runs December 3 to 8, 2018 and the full schedule can be found at sparkdisabilityartfestival.com.
