Calgary-wide celebration features creative self-expression by artists pan-disability

One of Canada’s largest and longest running visual arts festivals for artists with disabilities, SPARK Disability Art Festival is an amazing series of exhibits that ignite the mind and spark the imagination.
Presented by Prospect/Studio C, participating artists are encouraged to explore authentic interpretations of the disability experience. This year’s festival includes juried exhibitions with international talent from across Canada, the United States, and United Kingdom.
SPARK celebrates creative self-expression by artists pan-disability, including emerging and professional artists with developmental, physical, or sensory disabilities, mental health barriers, brain injury, and/or chronic illness. Spanning six public venues across Calgary, checkout events at the University of Calgary, Arts Commons, Alberta College of Art + Design, cSPACE King Edward, Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, and Studio C.
There’s even a Nickle at Noon discussion panel Mental Health in Museums and Art Galleries. Presented at Nickle Galleries, University of Calgary (410 University Ct. NW) from 12:00 to 1:30pm on November 30, 2017, join Dick Averns, Paul Freeman, Tamara Pringsheim, Richard Boulet, and other special guests to discuss the relationship between mental health, museums, art galleries, art, and artists. The discussion is followed by the relaxed reception for the exhibition, Richard Boulet: RAGE HOPE.
