Starting in 2010, Tammi Campbell would start each day in her Saskatoon studio by drawing a different variation of a grid in graphite on Japanese rag paper. Campbell would then write the salutation “Dear Agnes” in the top left corner, fold the drawing twice like a letter, and then store it in sequence. Campbell completed her last letter to modernist artist Agnes Martin on December 31, 2017. See the final three months in this intriguing show.

Launching its fall season with solo exhibition by Kevin Day in its newly renovated Main Space, swing by The New Gallery to check out Day’s first exhibition in Alberta. The show opens at 8:00pm on September 29, giving you a chance to experience the act of ‘becoming’ data. Raising the question of how easily humans are influenced, tracked, and consumed by technology, the installation uses a computer hooked up to a camera to collect information from the audience, ranging from density to colour, and then converts these points of data into a responsive mimicry of the chirps and beeps of cell phone push notifications. This sound composition is then plotted on a grid of floor-based speakers.

a hint of perennial magic lingers in its fingertips is a site-specific project that examines native and non-native weed species in relation to urban development in the community of Inglewood.
