Directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and starring Monica Vitti with Richard Harris, Calgary Cinematheque launches its 11th season with renowned Italian film, Red Desert.

Following a woman trying to survive in the modern world of cultural neurosis and existential doubt, Antonioni’s first colour film is known for its beautiful yet haunting scenic design. Awarded the Golden Lion at the 25th Venice Film Festival in 1964, the work takes place in industrial landscapes that add to the unease, alienation, and vivid perceptions of the main character, Giuliana.

Red Desert screens at 7:00pm on October 12, 2017 at The Plaza Theatre (1133 Kensington Rd. NW). Presented in Italian with English subtitles, advance tickets and memberships can be found at calgarycinema.org.
