Marking the upcoming Jewish holiday Purim, the Calgary Jewish Community Centre (JCC) is pleased to present the Calgary JCC Community Klezmer Band’s Purim à la Klezmer.

A Purim tradition to celebrate with music, dancing, and spirited drinks, Klezmer is Yiddish music originating from Central and Eastern Europe. The genre originally consisted largely of dance tunes and instrumental pieces for weddings and other happy celebrations.

Local comedian Yenta (Joy Feldman) opens and the evening continue with music and dances led by a professional dance caller. You can also check out an exhibition about the music genre, as well as an explanation and history of Purim.

Purim à la Klezmer takes place at 7:30pm on March 11, 2019 at Calgary JCC (1607 90th Ave. SW). Admission by donation.
