Performing the Landscape

Five local galleries revisit the landscapes through the lens of the moving image

The landscape is a visual art standard. Beautiful and often sublime, there is a certain cliche that sees a conventional and stereotypical representation the land. But that’s about to change in this expansive show.

Illingworth Kerr Gallery (IKG) and Alberta College of Art + Design bring together five local galleries to revisit the art of landscape through the lens of the moving image.

Challenging tradition, the work of 13 international artists are presented at the IKG, Contemporary Calgary, Glenbow, Stride Gallery and TRUCK Contemporary Art. The exhibition is the work of IKG’s Visiting Academic Curator Lorenzo Fusi and is full of unexpected surprises.

Performing the Landscape runs September 22 to November 12, 2016 with an ambitious opening reception slated for each participating gallery throughout the evening of September 22. Visit acad.ca for the full schedule.
