Featuring performances of South Pacific, Cinderella, and the musical review, And So It Goes featuring Brett Polegato, Calgary Opera’s summer treat returns to its full spectacle in a new location.

Nestled beside the Elbow River, head to ENMAX Park and go under the Mainstage Tent to be part of Canada’s only summer outdoor opera festival. There’s even a chance to take in free family entertainment from some of Calgary’s best music groups. And with Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific as the mainstage production, it’s bound to be a pleasure.

Holding the crown as the second longest running Broadway musical of the time, the production is full of memorable music including hit songs Some Enchanted Evening, There is Nothing Like a Dame, Bali Hai, and I’m gonna wash that man right outta my hair.

If you’re looking for family-friendly entertainment, Cinderella is a must-see. Tickets are only $15, making it the perfect time to see this one-act adaptation by Rob Herriot of two operas—Gioacchino Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Jules Massenet’s Cendrillon. A great introduction to opera, Cinderella requires audience participation with four children from the audience asked to act as mice to help with Cinderella’s ball gown and guide her coach.

You can even register for a free wristband that allows you entry into the Community Amphitheatre to enjoy family entertainment on August 12, 13, 19 and 20.

Opera in the Village runs August 10 to 13 and 17 to 20, 2017 at ENMAX Park (Elbow River Pathway SE). Visit calgaryopera.com for the full schedule.
