Y Stage marks Eating Disorder Awareness Week with heartwarming show
- Location: The Studio at Vertigo Theatre 161, 115 9th Ave. SE
- Price: $15 - $25
Josephine is putting on a play with help from Boris and Sistahl. It’s about anorexia, but don’t let that put you off.
A personal story revolving around a young woman’s experiences with anorexia, Mess is being presented in conjunction with the Eating Disorder Support Network of Alberta (EDSNA) as part of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week.
Created by Lawrence Olivier award-nominated theatre artist Caroline Horton, the show is a moving look at obsession, addiction, and not wanting to get out of bed.
“It is a pleasure to be presenting such an intelligent, thoughtful and clever group of artists,” says Y Stage Artistic Producer Nathan Pronyshyn, in a statement. “Mess sheds a much needed light on the single most deadly mental illness through a production that is as humorous as it is sensitive; as creative as it is insightful. I am thrilled that we will be partnering with EDNSA for this exciting run.”
Special programming includes a chance to take part in Smash_ED on opening night. On February 3, audience members are invited to bring a bathroom scale and smash it to smithereens in a safe environment to show your support of those affected by eating disorders. And the performance on February 4 will be followed by a panel discussion hosted by EDSNA.
