Transformational production returns to celebrate and inspire

With the ultimate goal of building community and encouraging positive change, Making Treaty 7 returns to Calgary for three evenings of celebration, inspiration and learning.
The work focuses on the history and legacy of the signing of Treaty 7 between Queen Victoria and the First Nations of Southern Alberta and is a transformational theatrical production. Using multidisciplinary performance to bring life to the promise of Treaty 7, the play allows audiences better understand the intent of the Treaty, while also casting a critical eye on the consequences Alberta faces today.
“The performance combines history and celebration. It is an important educational and reconciliation piece that we believe is integral for our communities to see and understand how we are all Treaty people,” says Making Treaty 7’s Executive Director Michèle Stanners, in a statement.
Growing and changing each time it is performed, the 2016 production is lead by newly appointed Artistic Director Troy Emery Twigg and features a cast of award-winning actors, writers, poets, composers, musicians, dancers and singers.
“Stories depicted in the performance are inspired by elders and by true events of Alberta’s Indigenous communities. We’re thrilled to have curated such a talented line-up of performers able to bring this powerful story to life through theatre,” says Emery Twigg, in a statement.
