Make Love Not Art
Relaxed performance challenges assumptions and tells a unique tale
- Location: Engineered Air Theatre, Arts Commons 234 9th Ave. SE
- Price: $15 - $35
From Calgary’s own Inside Out Theatre, Make Love Not Art tells the story of a renowned visual artist who is known for daring nude portraits that display her unique and tiny body for all to see.
But when she asks her gallery curator and self-professed biggest fan out on a date, the characters are forced to confront voyeurism, self-exploitation, and the struggle to be seen. Written and performed by Elaine Lee and Col Cseke, Make Love Not Art challenges assumptions that are often made about people with disabilities.
The entire run is made up of relaxed performances, designed to welcome audiences who may benefit from a more relaxed environment. And outside the theatre, make sure you take time to explore Steve Kean’s photo exhibition, Spina Bifida – Front to Back—a powerful collection of work that allows his subjects a chance to be seen on their own terms.
Make Love Not Art runs January 9 to 12, 2018 at the Engineered Air Theatre, Arts Commons (234 9th Ave. SE) and is part of the High Performance Rodeo. The show contains nudity and is suggested for 18+.
