Award-winning and formerly imprisoned journalist and author Mohamed Fahmy is in Calgary this week to take part in the 2016 GlobalFest Human Rights Forum.
Since 2007, the GlobalFest Human Rights Forum has set out to promote diversity, cross cultural respect, and equality in our community, structured around the UNESCO’s Coalition of Municipalities against Racism and Discrimination.
Presented by TD, the program encourages systemic change across the Canadian community in a positive and safe environment. The week is full of free sessions and panels taking place at Calgary Public Library’s John Dutton Theatre (616 Macleod Trail SE) as well as a ticketed breakfast featuring a keynote speech from Fahmy on August 17, 2016 at Civic on 3rd (130 3rd Ave. SE). Tickets are $50 each and include a breakfast buffet as well as two general admission tickets to GlobalFest’s Mexico night.
Other themes include The Rule of Law in an Age of Fear, The Indigenous Experience and Freedom of the Press.
