If you love animation then Quickdraw Animation Society has the festival for you! The annual Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival (GIRAF) kicks off its 12th year with Nova Seed—a sci-fi adventure story animated single-handedly by Canadian artist Nick DiLiberto.

Drawing inspiration from 80s cartoons like Masters of the Universe and Thundercats, Nova Seed is visually stunning. In fact, DiLiberto drew each of the film’s 60,000 frames by hand before digitally colouring and sequencing them.

Other festival features include Louise en Hiver, which took home the Grand Prize for Best Animated Feature at the Ottawa International Animation Festival, and a 40th anniversary screening of Allegro Non Troppo.

GIRAF Animation Festival runs November 24 to 27, 2016 at the Globe Cinema (617 8th Ave. SW) and at Quickdraw Animation Society (2011 10th Ave. SW). The full schedule can be found at giraffest.ca.
