ProArts Presents the German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary

Founded in 1971 by German immigrants who wished to enjoy and preserve their German choral culture, the German Canadian Male Chorus sing approximately 60% of their songs in German. The choir just returned from a concert tour of England in celebration of Canada 150 and you can hear them at this free lunch hour concert.

Diaspora Reception

Meaning to scatter in Greek and traditionally referred to dispersion or migration of a people, today diaspora has gained a broader meaning to describe any community living outside their shared country of origin or ancestry. Coordinated by the Alberta Society of Artists, artists were invited to visually present what it means to them.

Calgary’s newest concert series, Red Carpet Recital presents this free noon-hour concert with organist Jim Picken and cellist Liz Tremblay. Presenting a kaleidoscope of musical offerings through five centuries including movements from Bach’s G minor Sonata and Shostakovich’s Violoncello Sonata, the concert also features charming character pieces. A $5 lunch is available for purchase after the concert.
