When the body of a young man still strapped into his airplane seat falls into Harold and Elsie’s farm, the mysterious guest affects a profound transformation on them.
Presented by Calgary’s Fire Exit Theatre and Chemainus Theatre, Falling: A Wake is a surprisingly funny play about love, loss, and the redemptive power of letting go.
“A friend of mine told me about this show she was performing in at Chemainus Theatre this past summer,” says Fire Exit Theatre Artistic Director’s Val Lieske, in a statement. “She was so excited about this little piece and said that I should read it. I found it, read it and fell in love with it. When I read it all I could hear was her voice in my head as the character and knew I had to have her in it. So I contacted the Artistic Director, Mark Dumez, and asked if he would consider a little road trip over the Rockies. He agreed!”
Written by Gary Kirkham, directed by Mark Dumez and featuring Karen Johnson Diamond and Michael Peng, the play was inspired by Kirkham’s loss of a friend in the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 in 1988.
