Exposure Photography Festival

Province-wide celebration includes book launches, workshops, screenings, and more

With more than 40 participating galleries, February is a great time to love photography. Don’t miss this month-long, province-wide festival of amazing and groundbreaking works as it takes over Alberta.

The 14th annual Exposure Photography Festival should be on your to-do list and features exhibitions, artist talks, opening receptions, workshops, panel discussions, and other events that celebrate the art of photography in all its forms.

The festival is even hosting two of its own curated exhibitions—the Emerging Photographers Showcase (EPS) and the Open Call (OC). Featuring emerging Albertan photographers, EPS was juried by the festival’s board of directors while the OC exhibition was juried by the National Gallery of Canada’s Associate Curator of Photography, Andrea Kunard, and features international and Canadian photographers. Both exhibitions can be found in spaces at Eau Claire Market (200 Barclay Parade SW) and a kick-off bash takes place on February 3, 2018 from 10:00am to 5:00pm with an opening reception that evening from 6:00 to 9:00pm.

Other Calgary highlights include a one-night-only screening of Pecker at Theatre Junction GRAND and the international debut of The FENCE, a large scale travelling outdoor photography exhibition produced by United Photo Industries in Brooklyn, NY. Seen in seven cities across the United States, The FENCE can be found installed on construction fencing starting at the Peace Bridge and working its way east through West Eau Claire Park, towards the festival’s Eau Claire Market Festival Hub.

Exposure Photography Festival runs February 1 to 28, 2018 at venues in Calgary, Banff, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Okotoks, Medicine Hat, and Longview. The full schedule can be found at exposurephotofestival.com.
