As we roll into another month and another season, it’s the perfect time to get to know Calgary’s amazing visual arts community. From ongoing exhibitions to pop-up sales to tons of festivals, there’s lots to see and do.

Sandra Vida’s new video installation grows out of a previous series of works where she explored life’s thresholds, transitions, and passages. Logical Conclusion

A collection of logic puzzles made up of real algorithms being used to make decisions about people, step into this school and see how they “think” by completing the puzzles for yourself. Kathryn Blair is a Master of Fine Arts Candidate in the Department of Art at the University of Calgary and her work focuses on how technology mediates human experiences using wearable technology, physical computing, and puzzles.

Bruise Me Softly

A frank, autobiographical exploration of queer identity and sexuality, Dana Buzzee looks to the practice of witchcraft as a framework for creating art. Carl White grew up in England, frequenting institutions like the National Gallery and British Museum, which formed the foundation for his art practice. As a public artwork Recognition…Validation…Reassurance… takes the form of a social practice art project.  Created by community participants for community benefit, the content addresses mental wellness, and is devised and led by artist Dick Averns. Reassurance… is based on the premise that mental health is about self-expression but is often invisible.  Presented along a city block in the downtown core, this 24/7 installation features nearly 200 artworks generated through free community workshops. Swing by the community celebration from 3:00 to 6:00pm on June 27.
