Equinox Vigil
Non-religious, sacred event honours the dead with art and camaraderie
- Price: Free
Bringing people together in a non-religious, sacred event to honour the dead, the fifth annual Equinox Vigil merges live music, performances and contemporary art installations to create an atmosphere of community camaraderie.
Inspired by global cultural traditions like Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebrations, Calgary’s own Equinox Vigil was created by local award-winning artist and social activist Sharon Stevens to reflect on the natural cycle of life and death.
Gathering in the historic Union Cemetery, 2016 artists include Caitlind Brown and Wayne Garrett, Eveline Kolijn. Sue Goyette, the Threshold Choir and the Union Choir.
Equinox Vigil takes place from 6:30 to 9:30pm on September 17, 2016 at the Union Cemetery (enter off of Spiller Road SW). Visit equinoxvigil.ca for the full schedule.
