The true story of a father and son—and the radio silence between them, Alberta Theatre Projects presents Tetsuro Shigematsu’s autobiographical one-man show.
Exploring his rocky relationship with his emotionally reserved father, the former CBC broadcaster created a series of visually striking live, cinematic vignettes that re-enact moments from his father’s incredible personal history. From the ashes of Hiroshima to swinging 1960s London, Empire of the Son uses audio recordings and photographs to paint an intimate portrait of a deep-seated love that they both struggle to express.
Empire of the Son runs January 16 to 28, 2018 at the Martha Cohen Theatre, Arts Commons (215 8th Ave. SE) and is part of the High Performance Rodeo.
