Cowboys, showgirls, tap dancing, frivolity, and joy—Theatre Calgary closes its season with the hit co-production Crazy for You.
A hilarious song-and-dance extravaganza, the show is jam-packed with classic songs by George and Ira Gershwin, reworked by Ken Ludwig to form a new story. Written after a phone call from Texas millionaire Roger Horchow, Ludwig resurrected Girl Crazy by combining the original musical’s songs with loads more Gershwin gems. With Horchow’s support and the rights to many of the Gershwin’s greatest hits, Crazy for You opened in 1992, promptly won the Tony Award for Best Musical, and has been a musical favourite ever since.
A young banker is sent to the sleepy town of Deadrock to foreclose a rundown theatre, but his heart and his life are turned completely upside down after he decides to put on a show in an effort to save the space. A co-production with Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre, Crazy for You includes the hit numbers I Got Rhythm, Someone to Watch Over Me, Nice Work If You Can Get It, and many more.
Crazy for You runs April 18 to May 20, 2017 at the Max Bell Theatre, Arts Commons (220 9th Ave. SE). Tickets start as low as $45 and can be purchased through Theatre Calgary at 403.294.7447 or online at theatrecalgary.com.
