The story of a small town that welcomed the world—Come From Away has won over audiences since its Broadway debut.
Sharing the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small Newfoundland town that welcomed them, this breathtaking new musical is written by Tony nominees Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and helmed by this year’s Tony Award-winning Best Director, Christopher Ashley.
Come From Away has been hailed as a cathartic reminder of the capacity for human kindness.
As planes where diverted in the wake of the September 11 attacks, 38 were ordered to land unexpectedly in the small town of Gander as part of Operation Yellow Ribbon. What happened over the next week captivated the world—the town’s residents welcomed thousands of strangers into their homes offering food, clothes, and comfort.
Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.
Come From Away runs March 19 to 24, 2019 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (1415 14th Ave. NW).
