Over at The New Gallery a whole new reading group is about to form and their topic is quite metaphysical.

Based on philosophical aesthetics, this group will be reading selections from major works by both classical and contemporary philosophers. Don’t consider yourself a big thinker? Don’t worry. The group is open to anyone interested in the subject and committed to reading primary philosophical texts and contributing to discussion. It all kicks off with a few classic texts in the history of aesthetics, from Plato to Heidegger, and will evolve based on the group’s interests.

Organized by John Calvelli, professor in the School of Critical and Creative Studies at the Alberta College of Art + Design, the first meeting will focus on the initial direction of the group.

The first Circle of Philosophical Aesthetics takes place at 6:00pm on October 13, 2016 at The New Gallery (208 Centre St. SE). There is no cost to join, but participants will be responsible for acquiring the subsequent readings.
