Promising another fantastic celebration, join in the fun and raise a glass to Canada’s 152nd birthday.

The City of Calgary has once again partnered with dozens of local cultural organizations to program a day filled with free, family-friendly events taking place on July 1.

Bursting with music, dance, art, and culture, the day includes presentations from the Canadian Armed Forces, an Indigenous Showcase on Prince’s Island Park, and live music on the Tim Hortons Canada Day stage.

And what Canada Day would be complete without fireworks? Look for them once again off of the Centre Street Bridge starting at 11:00pm.

East Village Street Fair

10:00am – 4:00pm

With street vendors, food trucks, live music, and cultural dancing, explore local businesses showcasing many unique goods. Swing by the community garden area to find face painters and balloon twisters.

Studio Bell

Free admission

Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, is ready to rock for Canada’s 152nd birthday. Explore Canada’s rich musical history though five floors of exhibitions and enjoy live tunes, pop-up activities, and free admission all day courtesy of Bell. Highlights include an O Canada sing-along, dueling pianos in an all-Canadian song battle, and much more. You can even find live musical street performers outside of Studio Bell throughout the day.

Canada Day Youth Showcase

Bring live music fans of all ages to the King Eddy for a family-friendly bash in celebration of Canada’s 152nd birthday. The day includes a roster of local youth performing heart-exploding sets courtesy of Major Minor Music Project, Girls Rock Camp Calgary, and School of Rock Calgary.

Fort Calgary

Free programming, museum admission by donation

With family-friendly fun throughout the day, head to Fort Calgary for live music, kid’s crafts, an artifact tent, temporary tattoos, face painting, and performances from the NWMP brass band. There is also a family-friendly indoor/outdoor beer garden to checkout. Most programming is free and you can get into the museum with a donation.

Indigenous Showcase & Powwow

Free admission

Celebrate Indigenous culture with a traditional Powwow and cultural programs at Prince’s Island Park. It all begins on the main stage at 11:00am with a morning blessing with Keith Chiefmoon. Open for all to participate, the Traditional Powwow Grand Entry takes place at 1:00pm.

Tim Hortons Canada Day Stage

Celebrate Canada Day with diverse sounds from Franco-Albertan band Post Script, the folk-rock sounds of Edmonton band Captain Tractor, and the pop of Calgary-based group, Ghostkeeper. The night wraps with a performance by Steven Page and fireworks off the Centre Street Bridge set to iconic, award-winning Canadian music.
