Matthew Halls joins the Calgary Philharmonic for this year's festival

An essential celebration of Bach, Matthew Halls, the director of the internationally-renowned Oregon Bach Festival, leads the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra for this annual festival. Head to the beautiful Knox United Church to hear examples of Bach’s finest including a reconstructed score.

Bach St. Mark Passion

Beyond the monumental St. Matthew and St. John Passions, Bach also composed a Passion based on the gospel of St. Mark. While the music has been lost, the original text remains. A Canadian premiere performance of the reconstructed score prepared by conductor Matthew Halls, this concert uses Bach’s original text.

Brandenburg Concerto No. 5

An expert on the music and era of Bach, Halls is also a lauded harpsichordist. Hear his virtuosic keyboard mastery on Bach’s joyous Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. The performance is balanced by Orchestral Suite No. 4, and includes original works from two of Bach’s leading French Baroque contemporaries.
