A place to share creativity, influence one another’s work, and build relationships and collaborations, Artsdance returns on September 28 with a full day of conversations and celebrations.

An Intertribal gathering of Calgary-based arts organizations, non-profits, educational institutions, and Treaty 7 Nations, Artsdance was formed with the notion that artists must be at the centre of the conversation and action towards a creative, connected city. Guided jointly by local artists and arts organizations with partnering families of the Blackfoot, Tsuut’ina, and Stoney Nakoda, Artsdance honours the four directions, the four elements, and the four quadrants that make up Moahkinstsiss (Calgary).

It all kicks off with a free afternoon of interactive programming and conversations to develop relationships and collaborative potential between Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists and arts organizations.

In the evening, Theatre Junction GRAND plays host to the celebration showcase. Featuring a keynote address by Sophia Lebessis, owner and art dealer of Transformation Fine Arts—a boutique gallery specializing in masterworks of Inuit and First Nations art—the evening includes performances and screenings by Bebe BuckSkin, Treaty 7 Film Collective, Kelli Morning Bull, Angela Miracle Gladue, Cory Beaver, Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth, Dwight Farahat, and many more. Tickets are priced on a sliding scale and the show starts at 8:00pm.

“It’s a full-day of programming designed to activate the frequency of this territory through arts,” says Cowboy Smithx, artistic director of Iiniistsi Treaty Arts Society, in a statement.

Artsdance takes place on September 28, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00pm at St. Patrick’s Island Park (1300 Zoo Rd. NE) followed by a showcase celebration at 8:00pm at Theatre Junction GRAND (608 1st St. SW).
