Part of the AlterNATIVE Indigenous Film Series, EMMEDIA Gallery & Production Society showcases the rich landscape of works produced by Indigenous artists with an edition curated by Jared Tailfeathers.
Featuring films by Jackson 2bears, Kez Lefthand, Kelli Rae Morning Bull, Kelton Stepanowich, Trevor Solway, and Amber Twoyoungmen alongside performances Chantal Chagnon, Curtis Lefthand, and Nite Sun, these artists and filmmakers explore the challenges of balancing tradition and contemporary practices.
Each piece looks at how the artist finds a positive equilibrium in their cultural identity while honouring their roots and dreaming of the future.
A screening takes place at 7:00pm on September 28, 2018 at The Plaza Theatre (1133 Kensington Rd. NW) followed by a panel discussion at 1:00pm on September 29, 2018 at the CSIF Flex Space (100, 1725 10th Ave. SW). Moderated by Tailfeathers and featuring Danni Black, Chris Jones, Curtis Lefthand, and Keegan Starlight, hear the panel discuss the challenges of balancing tradition in a contemporary world and what resources are available for Indigenous artists.
