A three-week celebration of dance, drama, music, and interdisciplinary performance, the University of Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts’ new festival of student work unites disciplines for a collaborative program.

A significant milestone for the school sees the Taking Flight Festival of Student Work re-imagined in the form of Alchemy.

“The Oxford Dictionary tells us that alchemy is a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination. This definition captures our aspirations for this festival,” says Bruce Barton, director of the School of Creative and Performing Arts, in a statement. “Through hard work, raw talent, and strong emergent skills, our students are, indeed, accomplishing magical feats of creation.”

Each division is profiled over the festival and, through unprecedented levels of collaboration, the lineup of student work includes staged theatrical productions, readings, interdisciplinary performances, dance showcases, and concerts.

The festival runs March 22 to April 11, 2018 at the University of Calgary (2500 University Dr. NW) and a full schedule can be found at scpa.ucalgary.ca. Performances may contain mature subject matter and are suggested for ages 14+.
