A celebration of dance, drama, music, and interdisciplinary performance, the University of Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts’ festival of student work unites disciplines for a collaborative program.

Created and presented by undergraduate and graduate students, go for a deep-dive through drama productions, music concerts, staged readings, dance performances, and interdisciplinary creations as each division is profiled over the festival. Mauser

An exploration of the role of individuals within a revolution, Nathaniel McBride translated this work by Heiner Muller. Inspired by the punk feminist group Pussy Riot, this production juxtaposes the cast’s experiences of oppression with the moral dilemma that a communist revolutionary faces during the Russian Civil War.

World Music Ensemble

The World Music Ensemble is made up of a combination of instruments from different cultures throughout the world. Students have the opportunity to explore and perform the music of different cultures and learn new instruments, developing new music and reworking traditional music through a student-driven creative process.

Bury The Wren: An AR/VR/Carbon Reality Experience

In 1880, five members of the Donnelly family were brutally murdered by their neighbours. Annie Donnelly and her husband Robert survived and lived among the murderers, who were never brought to justice. An immersive one-on-one performance, Bury The Wren uses augmented reality and virtual reality, mixed with “carbon” reality, to exhume Annie’s voice from the grave of history.

A double bill featuring Pierrot’s Gender Reveal Party and The Care and Feeding of Baby Birds, this evening of artistic endeavours explores gender binary, mental health, and the desire to be needed.

Dance@Night

Dance@Night presents the final choreographic works of students completing their BFA in Dance. In this course-based project, students must identify and follow their own creative process without assigned themes provided. With performances by Kaili Che, Shondra Cromwell-Krywulak, Michaella Haynes, Megan Koch, and Sarah Mitchell as well as choreography by guest artist Heather Ware, don’t miss this fantastic evening of movement.
