Alberta Theatre Project presents Anna Ziegler’s multi-faceted exploration of consent
- Location: Martha Cohen Theatre, Arts Commons (215 8th Ave. SE)
- Price: $30 - $75
Alberta Theatre Projects examines the issue of consent head-on, tackling the politics of race, gender, and privilege on a contemporary university campus.
With a laser-focus on only two characters and their point of view on the same situation, Anna Ziegler’s award-winning play is destined to trigger discussion after audiences experience the piece.
Actually takes place on the contemporary campus of Princeton University and tells the story of two very different freshmen—Amber comes from a well-to-do Jewish family while Tom is a young African American man raised in poverty, the first in his family to attend university. The two meet one night at a frat party, hit it off, share some laughs and a few too many drinks.
Precisely what happens next is the devastating, complex question at the heart of this riveting new drama.
“Audiences will be talking about it long after the show ends,” says Alberta Theatre Projects’ Executive & Artistic Director Darcy Evans in a statement.
Having won the Ovation Award in Los Angeles for best new play, Actually has been presented on stages throughout Canada and the United States since 2018. Now, making its Calgary debut with Jenna Rodgers directing, this hot-button performance is sure to be memorable.
Actually runs February 26 to March 15, 2020 at the Martha Cohen Theatre, Arts Commons (215 8th Ave. SE). With mature subject matter, discussion of sexual assault, and course language, the play is suggested for ages 16 and up.
