It’s a frigid Christmas Eve and with a heart as cold as the freezing London winter, Ebenezer Scrooge is paid a visit from the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come.

Don’t miss this brand-new family-friendly production from Theatre Calgary. Local playwright Geoffrey Simon Brown is behind this new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, debuting just in time for the holidays.

Directed by Artistic Director Stafford Arima, the 2019 production also features a completely new design that includes sets and video by Scott Reid, costumes by Deitra Kalyn, and lighting by Micahel Walton. It includes many new surprises for seasoned audience members, while keeping the story firmly set in the story’s traditional world.

“Even though Dickens was writing so specifically about the time he was living in it feels like he tapped into something that we all seem to forget and need to be reminded of again and again,” says Brown in a statement. “We need to pay attention to those around us, as we all belong to the same world. That feels as relevant today, if not more, than it was in 1843.”

Brown’s adaptation marks the eighth different stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol since the inception of Theatre Calgary and once again stars Stephen Hair as Scrooge, as he returns for his 26th appearance as the famous miser. It’s your chance to celebrate 33 years of spirited tradition with the longest-running holiday theatre production in Canada.

A Christmas Carol runs November 28 to December 28, 2019 at the Max Bell Theatre, Arts Commons (240 9th Ave. SE).
