History is often made by those who leap fearlessly into the unknown, embracing risk to achieve the unimaginable. And for Dancers’ Studio West’s 35th Annual Alberta Dance Festival, those moments are the inspiration for 2016.
Dubbed The Leap: Bold Moments in Time, this year’s program invited 10 Albertan contemporary dance choreographers to embrace events that have not only challenged, but transformed humanity’s perception about what is possible.
Under the artistic direction of Davida Monk, the festival features two distinct programs of performance over two weekends. Week one—September 8 to 10, 2016—includes choreographers Kathleen Doherty, Meghann Michalsky, Linnea Swan, Melissa Tuplin, and Sophia Wright, while the second weekend—September 15 to 17, 2016—features Natalka Lewis, Brandon Maturino, Graham McKelvie, Sylvie Moquin, and Chantal Wall.
The 35th Annual Alberta Dance Festival runs September 8 to 10 and 15 to 17, 2016 at the Victor Mitchell Theatre, Pumphouse Theatres (2140 Pumphouse Ave. SW). Tickets and festival passes are available at brownpapertickets.com.
