See me. Hear me. is a creative artistic collaboration relating to the theme of empathy. Through the gallery, workshops and events, local artists and facilitators will have the opportunity to show their work while bringing awareness to the healing power of the arts. There’s something for all ages!
Culture of Supremacy
This week’s Grapple Lab lab participants will learn to play with the tool of taking on-going inventories of White Culture internalized beliefs and exchange ideas and practices around how to recognize behaviours and assumptions that continue to oppress other bodies of Culture (BIPOC).
Mixed Media Collage
Unleash your creativity in our mixed media collage workshop! Learn basic layering techniques to create stunning collages using papers and ephemera. Join artist Claudia Lorenz and bring your imagination to life with layers, paint, and illustrations. No prior experience needed — this workshop is perfect for beginners!
Needle Felting Workshop
Have you ever wanted to learn to needle felting? In this beginner-friendly workshop all materials are provided and you’ll learn basic techniques, tips, and tricks to create an adorable owl. You get to take everything with you, including enough materials to make a second owl at home.
Indigenous Beading
Shermayn Menicoche leads participants through the process of beading in the creation of their very own earrings. You will be creating brick stitch triangle earrings with the use of triangle metal findings and Miyuki Delica beads. A supply kit is included in the cost of registration.
Intro to Travel Journalling
Join Sparrow artist-in-residence Veronica Funk for an in-person workshop where she will introduce you to her travel journaling techniques and practices. She will share her sketchbooks and demonstrate how she works while travelling, including her use of minimal watercolour supplies. Make sure to register!
Elite Dance Workshop
The SHOW is collaborating with Taylor Hatala for an evening of dance and charm. Taylor has trained in jazz, lyrical, tap, contemporary, ballet, animation, and hip hop and has an impressive repertoire of A-list appearances and collaborations. Register now!
Create Together: Family Workshop
Esker invite families with children up to 12 years old to explore themes together in our current exhibitions through collaborative art-making, and creative experiences. Often inspired by the work in our current exhibition, each workshop introduces new mediums and techniques in all art forms.
Square Dance Rocks
Square dancing is just walking to music and you’re invited to attend a free class, no partner necessary. An experienced caller will introduce you to the basic steps of modern western square dancing. Register to take part and don’t forget water and comfy shoes!
Intro to Portrait Painting
During this in-person workshop Sparrow Artspace’s Artist-in-residence Veronica Funk discusses her method of creating an abstract acrylic background and adding a portrait to it. You’ll explore how to simplify complex subject matter and create interest by layering transparent watercolours while creating portraits on paper.
Youth Indigenous Beading
Check out this beginner-friendly Indigenous beading workshop for youth (ages 13–20). You will start with a keychain, learning skills such as single-needle beadwork on multiple fabrics. If completed early, you’ll have an option to work on a bigger piece to further your skill set. All supplies included.
Esker Youth Studio
Youth Studio connects youth (13-18+) to contemporary art and ideas through free experiential and creative activities led by contemporary artists. Parents or guardians are not required to be present for the duration of the program. All materials and snacks will be provided.
Esker Kids Studio
Esker’s Kids Studio program is a series of free hands-on workshops for children aged 8 to 12 where they independently explore creativity through process-based art making, movement and play. Parents or guardians are not required to be present. All materials and snacks will be provided. Dress for mess!
