Montreal-based, Iran-born santur player Amir Amiri has always sought to explore the limits of his music and has been working hard as an artist in residence at the National Music Centre.

With the goal of brining Persian santur music into the 21st century, Amiri has experimented with and created tools to help modernize performance of the instrument. Combining the sounds of the santur with other instruments, he has been exploring the full chromatic scale of sounds within the NMC Collection to master a new technique that melds Persian hammered dulcimer with electronics. Explore the process in this public workshop.

The workshop takes place from 1:00 to 2:00pm on April 27, 2017 at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre (850 4th St. SE), and is included with admission. Details subject to change.
