Touted as one of Indigenous cinema’s most important films, don’t miss your chance to see Benjamin Ross Hayden’s breakout dystopian sci-fi fantasy film, The Northlander.

Filled with unique, Metis themes, the film is set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic wasteland without technology or society, where humans struggle to survive because of a lack of food and water. A hunter named Cygnus (played by Corey Sevier) must travel across a desert valley to protect his tribe against a band of heretics.

Hayden was the youngest filmmaker to ever receive funding from Telefilm Canada’s micro-budget program and the film was screened as part of the Perspective Canada program at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Northlander runs April 7 to 14, 2017 at The Plaza Theatre (1133 Kensington Rd. NW) with daily showtimes.
