Someone sneezes. Someone can’t get a signal. Someone put an elephant on the stairs. Someone hates irrational numbers. Someone told the police. Someone’s never felt like this before.
A fast-moving kaleidoscope, Love and Information features more than 100 characters trying to make sense of knowledge, technology, communication, and our capacity for love. Directed by Val Planche, Caryl Churchill’s creation is brought to life by Ambrose University’s second year theatre students, Ainsley Daulmer, Jordan Fowlie, Chelsea Friesen, and Timothy Nickel, as well as guest artists Jamie Matchullis and Walker Nickel.
“This play is about memory, ethical information gathering and how information technology brings us together and separates us at the same time,” says Plance, in a statement. “It asks the question can information and love coexist in our age of splintered attention spans? Does information kill love? Connection? Have digitized entities and endless streams of data altered our relationship to each other and ourselves?
“We are now more connected than ever and studies show lonelier than ever. How can this be? Weren’t innovations in technology supposed to give us more leisure time to spend with our loved ones? With the increasing onslaught of knowledge, both useless and profound, have we become smarter? More critically engaged? More empathetic? Or rather have cynicism and a sort of willing blindness taken over?”
