Exploring the music of the sea with capstand shanties, halyard shanties, laments, forecastle songs, and short haul shanties, La Nef shares the rich songs and music that accompany a sailor’s work and play.

Presented by Calgary’s Early Music Voices concert series, don’t miss your chance to see Montréal’s French-Canadian early music performance group’s unique show inspired by the tradition of maritime music. Seán Dagher, the troupe’s musical director, has arranged these songs to display all the warmth and depth they deserve.

The journey of Sea Songs & Shanties began in 2012 when they created the memorable soundtrack to Assassin’s Creed III, followed by Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag in 2013, and Rogue in 2014. The success of these games and the huge popularity of their soundtracks convinced La Nef to bring the music to concert halls.

This concert features music from England, Scotland, Ireland, the Americas, and the Caribbean sung by a chorus of seven male voices.

Sea Songs & Shanties takes place at 3:00pm on February 16, 2020 at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 8th St. SW).

Enter before 12:00pm on February 13, 2020 for your chance to win a pair of tickets.

Can’t make it? A second concert takes place on February 15, 2020 at The Den, University of Calgary (402 Collegiate Blvd. NW). Visit eventbrite.ca for more information.
