Welcome to the Dollhouse
Calgary Cinematheque rounds out its 90s indie series with this cult classic
- Location: Globe Cinema 617 8th Ave. SW
- Price: $10 - $12
Both a black-comedy and a coming-of-age feature film, Welcome to the Dollhouse launched the careers of director Todd Solondz and actress Heather Matarazzo. Join Calgary Cinematheque for this, the last film of its series highlighting 90s American independent cinema.
Dawn Wiener’s disdain, rejection, awkwardness, and lack of attention is revealed consistently and unceremoniously on screen. The film was a surprise success, garnering critical praise for its nail-biting view of a pre-teen outcast and winning the Grand Jury Prize for best dramatic feature at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival.
Welcome to the Dollhouse screens at 7:00pm on November 3, 2016 at the Globe Cinema (617 8th Ave. SW). Advance tickets and memberships can be found at calgarycinema.org.
