With a diverse selection of new music, check out the vision of today’s new music composers and performers!

This October, New Works Calgary (NWC) presents Calgary music lovers with the opportunity to discover and explore new music and sound art events around the city. It’s sure to be a weekend of engaging concerts full of improvisation, premieres, electric guitars, multimedia, sound walks, and more.

A biennial festival, the lineup features performances by airborne extended, Linda Bouchard and the Grdina/Houle/Loewen Trio, and Calgary’s own feisty new music ensemble, Timepoint Ensemble.

“This year’s Calgary New Music Festival is sure to bring together the local new music community, showcasing the tremendous talent that lives within our city, while introducing new music from around the world as well,” says NWC President Simon MacLeod in a statement.

And on October 27, festival-goers can take part in the Calgary New Music Festival marathon, a full-day of fun featuring the Sintonia Soundwalk, Land’s End Ensemble’s CD release party, a performance by Proteus Saxophone Quartet, and an avant-garde evening with free improv and noise by Jeremy Brown Collective and Bug Incision.

The Calgary New Music Festival runs October 24 to 27, 2019. Visit neworkscalgary.com for the full schedule.
